A New Addition

Rose and the Doctor have been working on a little construction peoject of their own and welcomed baby Sarah Rose on January 27th, 2009.  We now have a nursery set up in the corner of Abbey's room, where the proud parents hang out with their nannies: Dalek Bob (named after the toy Dalek in the fantastic Torchwood Babiez  comic) and General Kudlak.

Ongoing Construction

Construction on the exterior of the House of Who is completed!!!  The interior still has a way to go yet. Hubby has used a fine-poiny Dremel attachment to make troughs in all the walls and we're waiting for a warm day to install all the wiring.  We had an unusually hot summer, followed by a very long, cold winter (by Dallas standards) so home construction has been delayed quite a bit.

A Time Lord Wedding

The Doctor and Rose were married last Saturday in a beautiful ceremony performed on our dining room table in a chapel made of an Ikea box and my Mother-in-Law's best tablecloth.  Rose looked lovely in her dress and veil and the Doctor donned the Scarf of Rassilon for the occasion.  All their friends were in attendance, including [info]dmacabreand [info]tallulah99who were honored guests, along with Gerard Way , Jareth the Goblin King (who attended with Jane Austen as his date) and the Ninth Doctor, who showed up just in time to give the bride away...to himself.

A Trip to the Bridal Salon

Rose, Martha, Sarah Jane and K-9 all went to the bridal salon today for their fittings.  Rose's dress still needs to be hemmed and her veil isn't quite right, but the bridesmaids dresses passed muster.  K-9 was very happy with his wreath of roses for his job as ringbearer, and the floral designer did a lovely job with the girls' bouqets. (Can't have real - the Doctor's allergies, you know)

A bed for Captain Jack

I also finished Captain Jack's 1940's-inspired bed this week.  I built it myself and it took six coats of stain and poly to get that finish just right (I wanted it to look like he'd had it since the forties)  I gave him a fancy machine stitch on his green cotton sheets because Jack does appreciate the finer things in life.  His quilt is brushed cotton plaid and has a coordinating polar fleece throw for those nights when Ianto isn't around to keep him warm.

The Vanity of Rassilon

At long last I have finished the Vanity of Rassilon!!!!  I'm sure Eric is just as happy about this as I am, since I've spent my spare bits of time for the last two weeks frowning and swearing over the miniscule counted crosstitch fabric.

I built the Queen Anne vanity and the Chippendale chair out of basswood and stained it with a Minwax polyeurethane stain in Pecan that Abbey chose for the Seal of Rassilon-themed Master Bedroom.  The bed just came today, and covering *that* ought to be a real challenge!

The Vanity of Rassilon!

The drawer opens to store Rose's comb, brush, nail file, etc.   The top holds her tissue, nail polish, hairspray and tiny bottle of Chanel No. 5!  I have to get some teensy photos of Jackie and Rose for the photo frames :)

The two-week chair cushion.  It would have taken six times that long without the Seal pattern I ganked from [info]meredee over at the [info]crafty_tardis

A Building Update

The House of Who is coming along slowly but surely. With a 7-year old, a Brownie Troop, 2 dogs, 1 hairless cat, a rescued Rough Earth Snake and a pretense at a social life, I can't spend all day every day building (although I sure try to!).

Here's how the house is looking these days.  It's coming along nicely, although they don't mention that you'll need a full set of handweights and three-foot clamps for construction.  So far the best thing I've found was a set of miniature construction clamps at Lowe's for $10.  I got so geeked I bought two sets and would have thrown the entire house into the trash without them.

A House for A Timelord

I'm a Doctor Who fan from way back.  God help my parents if we had to go anywhere on Saturday morning when the Doctor was cavorting around on Channel 56 in Detroit. I was also fascinated by tiny things.  My grandfather built me a three-story Victorian mansion that was nearly as tall as as I in 1977 that sparked a passion for both miniatures and.....action figures.   See, my Star Wars people and their Dalek butler had to have somewhere to live, you know!

They say history repeats itself, and I'm now the proud mother of Abbey Marcella - world's most eccentric seven-year old and biggest Doctor Who fan this side of the Atlantic (well, except her Aunt Tracy and me!). So when she started collecting the figures from the new series, of course, they had to have somewhere to live, and the TARDIS playset simply wasn't homey enough.  For starters, she pointed out, it didn't have a bathroom.

So when Rose and the Doctor got engaged last fall (yes, she sports a tiny engagement ring). They started looking for somewhere to call home between adventures in the TARDIS.  Eventually they settled on this little place, which is now under construction.

Stop in from time to time, see how the madness progresses, and feel free to offer advice, or your own who-inspired mini ideas - we need all we can get!  Thanks go out today to

[info]meredee over at the Crafty Tardis LJ community for her fantastic Seal of Rassilon crochet/stichery pattern.  She saved me about a million hours trying to block the pattern out myself and I can now use those million hours to needlepoint the Seal on the cushion of the Hepplewhite chair I've built for Rose's dressing table.

Yes, I'm mad as a hatter.  I know.
